Back in the Saddle

ScentLok’s new Saddle Hunter Midweight Jacket and Pant caters to the hottest trend in whitetail deer hunting.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (January 10, 2024) – Pickleball is trendy. So are recently popularized esoteric exercises like “biophilia training” and “primal movement”. (And here we thought eating right, the gym, and aerobic hunting could keep a guy fit.)

There is, however, a distinction between trendy and hot. In this case, the hottest thing going in the woods is saddle hunting. Much more than a fad, saddle hunting undeniably improves treestand hunting. You’re more safely secured in the tree with a widened field of view and better shooting prospects from a standing position. Moreover, saddle hunting affords greater mobility, letting you rapidly reestablish position to stay in contact with the herd.

The trouble is conventional hunting outerwear doesn’t accommodate the unique needs of saddle hunting. That was until ScentLok grabbed the deer by the antlers and began designing customized saddle hunting gear. New for 2024, ScentLok expands its saddle hunting range with the Saddle Hunter Midweight Jacket and Pant.

When asked about the new midweight saddle hunting suit, ScentLok Marketing Director and whitetail savant Steve Allie went straight to the bodily benefits. “Traditional treestand hunting can be like sitting in an office chair all day. Saddle hunting is more comfortable, especially if you have back problems.”

From there, Steve went on to discuss design elements of ScentLok’s new Saddle Hunter Midweight Jacket and Pant. “We solved all the problems traditional garments have for saddle hunting, with particular focus on where the saddle positions on your rear and up the back.”

For one, conventional exterior drop pockets are rendered useless in the saddle. ScentLok solved that by repositioning the pockets on the Saddle Hunter Midweight Jacket. Its elevated front pockets are strategically positioned above the bridge of your saddle for easy access.

To that, ScentLok added a drop-tail back to fully cover your rearend for warmth while tucked into the saddle itself. The jacket’s versatility is enhanced for both hybrid saddle and treestand hunters due to its tree harness port. Moreover, the smooth polyester forearms give hunters increased clearance when drawing their bows.

Likewise, back pockets are useless on regular hunting pants, said Steve. So ScentLok eliminated them. Their removal also alleviates pressure points caused by back pockets on longer sits. Instead, the apparel experts added precisely placed front cargo pockets.

The Saddle Hunter Midweight Pant also features built-in, but removeable knee pads. Again, ScentLok addresses a perpetual pain point for saddle hunters. The kneepads are just thick enough to take the edge off without feeling bulky on the walk to and from the tree.

The materials were meticulously selected as well. The Saddle Hunter Midweight Jacket and Pant sport a deadly quiet, polyester micro-tricot shell fabric with a warm diamond-shaped poly fleece lining. The combination is warm, comfortable, and stealthy in the woods.

Both garments include ScentLok’s Carbon Alloy®. The proprietary technology offers continuous absorption of odors by combining treated carbon, activated carbon, and zeolite to adsorb odors emitted by your body. ScentLok also added their Precip-X™ super hydrophobic treatment to dramatically repel light precipitation.

Later in the season, consider ScentLok’s already available Saddle Hunter Jacket and Pant. The insulated combo is geared for saddle hunting in colder conditions.
